Black Friday

November 30th, 2009 | By mdantzer-wvmx in Uncategorized | 1 Comment »

I went shopping on Black Friday for the first time ever.  I had the day off work…no 5am alarm…a rare opportunity to sleep in-hurrah!  Instead, Tracie set our alarm for 4:30am and I was standing in Kohl’s on Morse Road at 5:15am, kind of wondering what happened.

Anyway, I get it now why you crazies get up early the day after Thanksgiving and deck those malls, Baby.  Great savings! (I’ll bet we saved over $300 by shopping those Black Friday deals!!)  Plus we got most of our Christmas shopping out of the way and we won’t feel so much pressure in December- we can enjoy the season.

We hit Kohl’s, Meijer and Target before heading to Easton at 7am for 6 more hours of shopping excitement and adventure.  I was actually into it.  Easton was packed by noon which was fine because we were wrapping up by then.  I don’t think I would want to do it every weekend, but once a year was fun.

Tracie, Townes & I went to the Columbus Zoo to check out Wildlights opening weekend.  It is spectacular!  Take a date…take your kids (or do both, like I did!)  Amazing!

Go Buckeyes! Rivalry Run

OSU/Michigan Pi Kappa Alpha and Phi Gamma Delta Fraternities Run Game Ball 187 Miles to benefit the American Cancer Society (ACS) and the Coach Carr Cancer Fund

The Rivalry Run is a relay run conducted by the men of Pi Kappa Alpha (PIKE) and Phi Gamma Delta (FIJI) at both The Ohio State University and the University of Michigan in order to benefit cancer associations. The brothers set aside their differences at each university and meet halfway from “The Shoe” and “The Big House” to hand off the game ball from the away school to the home team. Each brother runs about 1 mile of the 187 mile trek to Ann Arbor this year with a total time running of about 30 hours. The game ball will be leaving The Shoe bright and early Friday morning at 3:00 am, November 20th.

This event is done as a charity event to raise funds for The Coach Carr Cancer Fund, who help with U of M patients that have cancer, and The American Cancer Society, a nationwide organization dedicated to eliminating cancer. Our goal for this year is to raise a total of $100,000 to be given to both funds.

How to Donate: Please visit either OSU fraternity’s ACS donation page:

“Dear Dantzer”

November 19th, 2009 | By mdantzer-wvmx in Uncategorized | No Comments »

“Love is the power supreme.”

-The Silver Surfer

I invite you to take part in a new feature on my show- “Dear Dantzer”  I will take your emails regarding relationship issues and give you the “male perspective.”  Why do I feel qualified to do this??  I do NOT…but ever since I took over the morning show on Mix 107-9, my fiance and all her friends have been begging me to do this.  I will honestly give my best thoughtful advice and better yet, I will open the phones to thousands of listeners who can weigh in.

So email with a relationship advice question.  Consider the fact that there are many couples who all go through the same ups & downs and many people will relate and will be helped when you get the discussion started.  I am looking forward to hearing from you!

She Said Yes- I’m Engaged!

November 16th, 2009 | By mdantzer-wvmx in Uncategorized | 1 Comment »

Sometimes, I make a good decision and do something smart.  I proposed yesterday to the very wonderful, lovely Tracie Zody and she said yes.  We are getting married Labor Day weekend, 2010.  Tracie knew I was going to propose, but she didn’t know when.  I make breakfast for us every Sunday morning and I surprised Tracie with flowers and the ring when I served breakfast.  And I played “Question” by the Old 97s on my boombox (yes, I DJ’d my proposal!)  Another part of the surprise was that I invited a bunch of people over to celebrate.

So it kind of went like this:

“I love you. Will you marry me?”

“Yes!”

“Okay! Um, a whole bunch of people will be here in like, 90 minutes- will you help me make food for them all?”

(It was probably a good idea to propose before asking for help in the kitchen…)

Thanks for the Plug!

Hey folks!

Vince and I are going to India Oak Bar & Grill tonight at 6PM.  It’s a cool little dive bar in Clintonville at the corner of Indianola and Oakland Park (590 Oakland Park Ave, Columbus, OH 43214614.261.9355).

Mark Dantzer, the DJ for our wedding and the morning DJ on 107.9 is playing guitar and singing with his buddy, Amos, on bongos.  They play from 6PM - 9PM.  We went there a couple weeks ago and had a lot of fun!

They have great cheap subs and happy hour prices for beer.  Not sure the exact prices - but it won’t be an expensive, fancy night!

Join us if you are free, and feel free to forward this to folks. (Howd’ya like that for alliteration?!)

It’ll be a good time!

So Many People Getting Sick!

November 11th, 2009 | By mdantzer-wvmx in Uncategorized | No Comments »

Tracie, my “Fiance-To-Be” hasn’t been to work this week.  Heather, my daughter, a junior at OSU came home from school because she felt so ill she wanted to rest at home.  People at work are calling in sick…

I know it cold/flu season…I hear all the same stuff you do about H1N1…but my over-active imagination has me thinking all this illness is like something out of a Stephen King novel.  “THE BUG” is taking people down!

And yet, I feel terrific!  I am plugging away unfazed by the illnesses that have been affecting many people close to me.  Again my over-active imagination tells me that perhaps “THE BUG” will spare me…and…and…I will be a leader in the “new world order…”

Yeah, right.

I can barely get my 8-year-old to do his homework.  If a “new-world-order” is coming, I’m not leading it.

India Oak Pub

November 4th, 2009 | By mdantzer-wvmx in Uncategorized | No Comments »

Let me recommend a cool, neighborhood pub- India Oak in Clintonville…at the corner of Indianola and Oakland Park.  India Oak has been a popular Clintonville hangout for 35 years.  The subs are big, tasty and inexpensive, the staff is super-friendly, and the bar is filled with regulars…a Cheers-type atmosphere.

I play guitar with my acoustic duo, Mark & Amos every Thursday, 6-9pm.  We play sing-along songs that everybody knows and we have a BLAST every Thursday.  I am no Bono, just a DJ-Rock Star Wannabe.  But the crowd gets into it and it is a fun night every Thursday.

Stop in for the great pub food and the casual, fun vibe.  Please say hello if you come in.  I’ll let you sit in on the bongos.

Cool video- check it out!
