Book Loft Benefit Open House Saturday
September 24th, 2009 | By mdantzer-wvmx in Uncategorized | 1 Comment »Next Saturday (9/26) from 7-11 p.m the famous Book Loft on Third St. in German Village will host a Benefit Open House in honor of two-year-old Celia Betz of Grandview, who is struggling with Batten Disease, a rare and fatal neurological disorder that has already taken away her vision and many of her motor skills.
Why the Book Loft? Beautiful images of Celia by a local photographer commissioned by the Batten Disease Support & Research Foundation, based in Reynoldsburg, caught the eye of the owner/publishers of Cardthartic, an independent greeting card company whose popular line of greeting cards fly off the shelves at the Book Loft. The company was so taken aback by the photography of the little girl they used it as inspiration for a brand new card, to be unveiled at the benefit.
The benefit is free and open to the public and half of the money spent that night and throughout the weekend on Cardthartic cards will go back to the BDSRA.

As a radio DJ and live DJ, I listen to tons of music…everyone I recommend Old 97’s “Question” to loves it. It’s a few years old…it should have been a HUGE smash hit.
Do you have a favorite song that should have been a big hit? Let me know. I am always on the lookout for great songs.

Dad makes amazing catch in stands at a Phillies game. He hands the ball to his little daughter and she throws it away!
Lame MTV VMAs
September 14th, 2009 | By mdantzer-wvmx in Uncategorized | No Comments »I lasted about 30 minutes with the MTV VMAs last night…I found myself disappointed and completely unimpressed with the mainstream music industry and MTV. I wish I had talked Tracie into watching our “Curb Your Enthusiasm” DVD instead.
Kanye West bum-rushed the stage and grabbed the mic out of Taylor Swift’s hand during her acceptance speech to announce that Beyonce made a better video. I couldn’t help wonder if he would have swiped the mic out of Bono’s hands? Or, to stick with country music stars- would Kanye have rushed the stage and stolen the mic from 6′5″ Trace Adkins?
How about some manners?
Amd how about some humor? I am sure hosting an awards show is waayyyy more difficult than I can comprehend, but I was confused by how Russell Brand was trying to connect- nonstop screaming and yelling. I almost felt like I miss missing something- where were the laughs?
The one music performance I witnessed featured Katy Perry and Joe Perry from Aerosmith covering Queen’s “We Will Rock You.” The pairing of two artists with the same last name was clever, but it made me wonder who the rock guitar heroes are today- or did we stop inventing them 20 years ago. Can you name this year’s new guitar heroes?
Madonna provided the single moment of class at the show’s beginning by delivering a non-bombastic speech paying tribute to Michael Jackson that hushed the crowd and had me hanging onto her every word. Maybe there were some great moments later in the show. I couldn’t hang in there to wait for them. I felt like I was being tested to see how much junk I could stand and stay tuned in…I tuned out.
I like irreverence and do not mind some shock-value, but I prefer it to be mixed with some talent and some moments of inspiration.
